I'm back...

Posted on 2006-2-12 (日) at 4:00 am by Florian Ragwitz [SIGNED]

No news for almost 3 months.. well, I am back now.

Some things that happened during this time:

new root server

I bought a server from Hetzner. It's called weedy.perldition.org and now hosts my personal page as well as some other things.

Net::SSLeay maintaince

I already maintained this Perl module for Debian a while, got some bug reports, forwarded them to the upstream author and nothing happened. Also the last release happened years ago in 2003. Therefor I asked the author if he may needs help or if he wants to pass the maintainership to someone else. He did so and I'm now maintaining Net::SSLeay together with Mike McCauley.

The project is now hosted on http://alioth.debian.org/projects/net-ssleay. Please use our Mailing List if you have any questions.

Geek Tour

I'm planing to make a geek tour in middle europe in the next weeks. I'll visit FOSDEM, GPW, CLT and an Amsterdam.pm meeting.

Wanna join? Mail me!

Some events

During the last months I visited some exciting events. I took some pictures and put them here.

Bug squashing

I worked a bit on my Debian packages and managed to fix almost all important bugs. The only missing ine is #346474, which is at least forwarded to upstream.

I'm on the planet

I'm now part of Planet Debian.

I'm sure I've missed important things, but that's it for the moment. I hope I'll manage to do more frequent updates in the future.

Parrot porting

Posted on 2005-11-16 (水) at 4:05 am by Florian Ragwitz [SIGNED]

Posted in: Perl

Yesterday I started fixing parrot, a register-based virtual machine that will be the foundation of Perl 6, on some architectures that are currently broken, namely arm, s390, mips, mipsel, ia64 and hppa. Up to this evening s390 and hppa already works and a quick fix for ia64 is also prepared. That's kind of successful in my eyes! :-)

Currently I'm investigating into the mips build errors. Mipsel will follow afterwards. Unfortunately I can't debug parrot on arm currently because Debian doesn't have an arm machine that's accessable for developers. :-/

Update: ia64 works again now!

rafl@debian.org

After one year, three months and twenty-fife days in the new maintainer process, which mostly consisted of waiting for other people, I can now call myself a Debian Developer, yay! Thanks to all those people who sponsored my uploads so far, especially Joachim Breitner.

SixPan

After reading autrijus comments on the ideas for Perl 6's CPAN I got interested in that as well. Therefor I contacted kane on that and talked with him a bit. In the result SixPan was set up for public brain storming.

Parrot commit bits

After becoming part of the pugs project, which I previously wrote about, I now also got write access to the parrot subversion repository. My intention is to rework the build-system a bit and then, based on that, to build a clean Debian package out of parrot.

Working on Monarch

Posted on 2005-9-22 (木) at 5:11 pm by Florian Ragwitz [SIGNED]

As I posted some time ago: I have a new job that mostly consists of coding Perl. It's about developing MONARCH.

Today I actually did the first bit of real coding work on it. Publications are indexed and stored from time to time using cron. I implemented a display that shows you when you publication will be stored finally by using a crontab parser. That's not too exciting, but it was fun for me, though. I really like that new job.

Mass Bug Filing

Posted on 2005-9-22 (木) at 5:01 pm by Florian Ragwitz [SIGNED]

Posted in: Debian

Today I reported quite a lot of bugs against outdated Perl packages. I did that semi-automatically using a small script that compares versions of packages in Debian and on CPAN. I didn't made a public announcement or warning before so I got flamed right away. However, I think it improved the quality of Perl packages in Debian a bit. Until know around 20 packages with, partially vintage versions, have been updated since this morning. I guess a lot more will follow.

PodCMS improvments

Posted on 2005-9-21 (水) at 10:51 am by Florian Ragwitz [SIGNED]

Posted in: Perl

I wrote a view for RSS. That was incredibly easy using Catalyst, yay!

The other new thing is the menu to your left. It's now hiding all subitems by default and only exposes them if the superior item is selected.

It's also capable of displaying images using the P<> format now:

Catalyst

There's also a happy new PodCMS user, lobo. Today he came up with this advertisement slogan for PodCMS which I kind of like: PodCMS - simplicity at its perfection. :-)
